There are two email systems used in stand alone mail programs POP3 and IMAP. These are accounts that are set up in your mail program (Outlook or Thunderbird). The account that I received from my ISP is POP3. I added AOL mail and it is IMAP. By getting rid of it you will not receive any mail from that system. You should be asking about email accounts rather than the type which can't be changed by you.
The premium Yahoo allows you to get POP3 mail from it. There are also programs that you can download to simulate a POP3 account with the free Yahoo. If that is what you are referring to then just delete the account from the email program and uninstall the POP3 simulator.
