pop3 (post office protocol 3) and smtp (simple mail transfer protocol) are two types of e-mail protocol that some ISP's use. (mine does, but its a local provider, and im not sure of the preferences of the rest of the country.) To e-mail someone, you need an e-mail client installed on your computer, the most popular on windows being Outlook or Outlook Express. You'd need to set up your account in that program, and to do that you need your e-mail address, the name the pop3 server (usually pop3.mail.yourisphere.com) and the smtp server (usually smtp.mail.yourisphere.com) and you'd also have to know your password that either the isp gives you, or that you set up with the isp.

Reply:No, I keep telling people the same thing, you DONT have to have a paid account to access Yahoo from within a program such as Outlook etc, I have and still use a free account within currently Windows Mail, just dont forget to enable POP Forwarding within Options/Mail options when in your account on the web (in IE or Firefox).

Web mail will not open when you click the email link. You need a fully configure mail client. You will need to check with Google what their mail servers are, also many free email providers will not allow smtp client programs like this for security reasons, so you will also need to check this with them.

I am a computer tech by trade, but am not sure how safe or unsafe yahoo's email system is. I don't think that you can get an anti-virus program to scan yahoo email because it is web-based. But, I would generally say you don't need to worry about viruses and such with yahoo. It does have the attachment scanner built-in, in addition to this, I would imagine that yahoo has on their mail servers virus detection software that scans all incoming and outgoing email.





Anti-virus programs like symantec will scan outlook or any other POP3/SMTP mail programs but not web-based email.





In addition to this, you shouldn't open any mail from people you don't know, just delete it or mark it as spam. If you do get a virus or trojan horse, if your anti-virus software on your computer is up to date, it should be able to detect it and get rid of it in most instances. It is important to keep your virus definitions up to date your anti-virus software is only as good as it's virus definitions file.
Reply:Yahoo is Http, last time I used it it was pop and smtp as well but they stopped the smtp so you could only send e-mails from internet explorer. Yahoo has its own built in virus checker so providing you access the e-mail through your browser yahoo will pick it up.





Besides that norton will pick up a virus if you download it to your computer.

I've fixed it now!! Yahoo Mail has been updated and 2 things now need to be done:





(1) Your emaill address now has the domain name @yahoo.co.uk (its - NO LONGER @yahoo.com) You need to change your Yahoo account in Outllook Express/Tools/Accounts to reflect your new email address.





(2) You need to log into your Yahoo Mail web account and go into Options/Mail Options/POP %26amp; Forwarding - and then re-enable POP mail.

You have a problem with whatever email application you are using. I'd check my yahoo pop3 settings against what yahoo thinks they should be. plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com is the addy for yahoo plus users. Also make sure that your port setting is correct also.





Or you can just open your yahoo email through your browser %26amp; email the file to yourself that way. %26amp; figure out your mail problem when you have more time to play with it.

You need to get that from your email company. It is different for ever service. For example, Shaw's POP3 is 24.71.223.43. Whatever e-mail company you have, it has it's own POP3. No one on Yahoo answers can tell which e-mail service you have unless you say so.

i have 2 pop3 eamil accounts and i want to setup a rule to move messages which i send from one account to specific folder in sent items. and keep the email which i send from the other account in the sent folder... summery i want to sperate the emails which i send from the two diffrent accounts.

Click OK twice to close both dialog boxes

If I understand you I think you mean how can you tell if your husband put all of your email accounts with one email client. There should be separate mailboxes and if you open them they should have different email addresses. It could be POP3 or IMAP, to find out which you will have to find how to view the properties of each account.

Fix For Gmail Pop3 Setup:


I recently setup a Gmail account via pop3, and I had an issue with it not being able to download my messages on multiple computers. The reason I choose to use Pop3 and not Imap, was for one simple reason.,I own two laptops and several times I am working on my computer and I am unable to connect to the internet but I still want to go through my downloaded emails and replyto them, and when I get connected to internet, all my emails go out then.





The problem that I had was, my emails were not downloading. Once my email program checked Gmail for the latest emails, no other computers were able to retrieve the email. I found a fix for this while surfing around the internet, so I decided to post the fix here for anyone else that might have the problem.





To fix it, all you need to do is add recent: in front of your username. Make sure to put the colon at the end of recent.


Example - recent:email@gmail.com


It tells Gmail to resend your latest email to you. One downside of using this, is that when you send a message you will get a duplicate sent emails. So if this really bothers you, you can just make a email rule and have it delete any of these duplicate sent messages.





Other POP3:


Call your ISP, ask them how to access their mail server, if possible.


If you can gain access to their server, delete the message that is giving you problems.





You can also use telnet to delete the emails


Go to start, run, and type


telnet


click ok


type in


open "your pop server" 110


for example, open mail.pop.yahoo.com 110


press enter and type in


user "your username"


press enter and type


pass "your password"


press enter and type


list


press enter and you should see a list of the emails and their sizes, find the large one which is causing the problems, and type

The error message you are receiving can also be caused by a corrupt email, you will need to do the same thing to fix it, but you won't know which one is the problem one, its best to look at which email the receiving fails on.





It can also be a problem with your antivirus, try disabling it to test

Reply:if your POP3 mailbox is on a different ISP from the one you are using for your connection, you might not be able to send.





basically the ISP that hosts your mailbox is blocking access to their SMTP server to users who aren't using their ISP. they do this to prevent spammers and others from forging sender addresses (which is basically what your usage would look like to them - here is a connection from outside the ISP asking to represent itself as a user within the ISP to send mail.)





most ISPs have this restriction for using SMTP/POP3 directly. if they have a webmail client or something like that, then you might be able to use your mailbox on a different ISP.

Reply:Yahoo: Doesn't provide pop3 access unless you upgrade to a premium account - In other words you have to pay them some money. They don't provide it for free.





Hotmail: Provide a http based interface which you can setup in Outlook Express. This is designed to stop other email clients accessing their http interface because they want you to use OE only...





In short, either stump up cash to yahoo, or use hotmails http interface with OE. You can set this up by adding a new account in OE and specifying hotmail as the server.





This has nothing todo with NTL.

for yahoo... it provides pop access to paid customers. i prefer imap over pop. pop is the worst technology for accessing mailboxes through some program like outlook.


gmail also provides pop service.. but for free... pop is not good. when you want to use email id on several computers via outlook or eudora

The problem you're encountering is that the functionality for emailing pictures that's built into Windows doesn't work for Yahoo! Mail without additional software or a paid-for (as opposed to free) Yahoo! Mail account.





I'd suggest using yAttach! (www.yAttach.net) to do what you're looking for. Simply install it and then try to send your pictures again in the exact same way. This time a new draft email should be created for you directly in Yahoo! Mail with your pictures attached (and with none of the POP3 stuff).

Problems with my Email Pop3 Server And Server (SMTP)?
Your email provider (usually your internet provider) should have a web page that lists the smtp and pop(3) or IMAP addresses.





SMTP is the protocol for sending mail (http and https are protocols for web pages). Your mail provider will have a server designated for you to connect to to send outgoing mail. normall it will be something like smtp.mycablecompany.com or an ip address 124.112.122.10


Some places require that you provide a username and password in order to connect to that server--those values would normally be the same as your internet provider username and password.





POP(3) and IMAP are two separate ways to retrieve incoming mail. Obviously, there a designated server that waits for mail to arrive to your account. then when you connect, the POP or IMAP prtocol is used to list, retrieve, and usually delete from the server the accumulated emails. Normally the address would be something like pop.mycablecompany.com or imap.mycablecompany.com or an ip address. These setting will require a username and password (else they wouldn;t know which mailbox to check).





There are somtimes a few other setting that may be required or disallowed.





You internet provider may have download files for popular programs like outlook, outlook express, eudora that will help with the install, otherwise their will be a page the specifies the servers and list any of the extra setting.





Make sure that you can browse the web if your still having problems with the email--that will rule out internet connection, versus email configuration.

I have a website and I have different addresses for different enquiries. Previously I was using Microsoft Outlook 2003 and I have a backup in .pst however it only backup the emails and not the email accounts.





Instead of re-enter all the account in outlook again, I need a new FREE email client that can do the same thing as Outlook 2003 that will allow me to backup all emails and email addresses or allow me to install it to a thumbdrive.
